Retail is one of the best models to use when trying to make a lot of money. It is a relatively easy concept and if applied properly should provide you with a steady revenue stream. The basic principle is:-

“Buy at a Low Price – Sell at a Higher Price.”

Where is the risk in that? You must ensure you buy at wholesale prices well below the retail price that you will charge you customers. There are many different avenues available to buy at wholesale prices. You could buy surplus stock at auction houses. Businesses will very often clear their unwanted stock in bulk lots through auction houses. Auctions are held on a weekly basis, check you local classifieds and search online for auctions containing suitable stock.

Buy direct from a manufacturer local or overseas. Depending on you chosen product range, undertake some research and make contact with companies that manufacture the items you require. If you buy in volume you can negotiate and achieve the lowest possible cost for each item.

Advertise you are a purchaser of unwanted or overstocked items in the newspaper or similar medium. You will be contacted by the seller who is showing his/her level of motivation by calling you. This way you will generate automatic opportunities to purchase at great prices.

Try to buy through one market place and sell through a differentiated market , this way it will not look to obvious you are profiteering and trading as somebody else’s expense . There is nothing wrong with trying to make a profit, but some people would use this against you and not give you an acceptable price at which you can buy.

If you find a product is selling easy and your profit margin is healthy in relation to the wholesale price, start focusing your efforts on this particular product. What can you do to create even more sales? What can you do to find more customers for this hot selling product? What marketing efforts can you undertake to spread the word, regarding the great product you are selling?

Multiplying the sales processes for your successful products is the key to make a lot of money in retail. Always strive to sell more while still keeping profits healthy. After all you are only required you to adhere to one simple principle.
